Since I have shot St. Cloud State hockey the past six years, I haven’t had the chance to attend a game as a fan since 2008 when I was in high school. Last evening, I was back in town and thought it would be nice to sit down and enjoy a game for once.

Turns out, that didn’t happen and I attempted something new…I shot the game with my iPhone 5s. I had the idea last year to shoot an entire Twins game with my iPhone, but I never got around to doing it. The ‘iPhone only’ idea popped into my head again last night as I was watching warm-ups from the bench and I decided to give it a shot. As if hockey photography isn’t hard enough, attempting to shoot with only an iPhone was quite the challenge, but incredibly fun at the same time. Shooting with the iPhone has its limits, but it helps me to see the game and potential images in an entirely different way.

All photos were taken with the Camera+ app with an iPhone 5s and the Lo-Fi filter was applied to each image through Instagram. And remember Instagram=Instant…it’s an app for mobile devices. Don’t cheat and upload your DSLR photos. What’s the fun in that? Be creative!

Below you will find sixteen of my favorite shots from the Huskies’ 4–2 victory over the Denver Pioneers.

Again, thank you for taking the time to check out my blog and feel free to pick up your smartphone every now and then, take a few pics and start to see the world a little differently.

‘Welp, see ya later.’
